Giving the Gift of Life Through Organ Donation

Organ donation is one of the most powerful ways in which one individual can give another person a chance at life. Yet, misconceptions and lack of awareness continue to prevent many people from understanding the importance and process of organ donation.

As part of NSS Day 2026, Deviprasad Goenka Management College of Media Studies, in collaboration with the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC), Mumbai and Live Beyond Life Foundation, is organising a two-day Organ Donation Awareness Programme for college students across Mumbai.

The programme brings together medical professionals, transplant coordinators, organ donation experts, donor families and transplant recipients to provide students with a deeper understanding of organ donation—from its medical foundations to its legal, ethical and human dimensions.

Through expert talks, interactive activities, a walk-a-thon, documentary screening, experience-sharing sessions and a panel discussion, students will be encouraged to learn, question and spread awareness about organ donation.

Dr. Sandip Prabhakar Bhurke

Consultant Nephrologist | Invitee Speaker, ZTCC Mumbai

Dr. Sandip Prabhakar Bhurke is a Consultant Nephrologist with approximately 26 years of professional experience in the field of nephrology and kidney healthcare.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Bhurke has been involved in patient care, medical education and healthcare awareness. He has also served as an Associate Professor at Nair Hospital, contributing to the education and training of medical professionals.

As an Invitee Speaker of the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC), Mumbai, Dr. Bhurke participates in awareness initiatives related to organ donation and transplantation.

At this NSS Day programme, Dr. Bhurke will interact with students during the Organ Donation Awareness Session, helping them understand the importance of organ donation and the role awareness can play in encouraging informed decisions about donation.
